Philosophy
I wish to create a mood, an atmosphere, a complete world in the frame of the photograph. Therefore, I use image processing software only to enhance lighting and crop images the camera has already captured.
Even my abstracts are documents of what I have seen and what the camera recorded. While I appreciate digital art, I prefer to rely on the beauty and artistic possibilities in the natural world.
I seek to present a moment in time when the world can create a sense of peace and stillness.
River
Global warming and pollution threaten beauty that nature presents to us. The river I know is the Kalamazoo, and these images are taken from its banks, from the back deck of my home in Michigan. My challange is to be patient, to look and wait, to watch for the timeless moment in the constantly changing and endlessly moving river.
Nature
The timelessness that photography brings to the moving moments in time can make us stop and admire that which we might ordinarily not notice or appreciate.
Architecture
Objects we make interact sometimes beautifly with nature, some in harmony with nature and some in contrast, as if to emphasize the diference.
Abstract
Serenity and peace can be found if we look. The peacefulness of simple geometry or the complexity between objects seen in time can also create harmony and beauty.
Still life
Arranged or found, objects can create a stillness, harmony, and beauty.
